Raise & Give Week:
In 2007 WIT Students’ Union raised €22,000. All proceeds went to the Solas Centre in Waterford & Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. This compared to €6000 the previous year. This year proved a major breakthrough for fundraising in the Union and established Waterford IT’s RAG Week as one of the highest profile college events in the country.
Class Rep System:
In 2007 the Union had approximate 150 Class Reps attend Class Rep Training in the Granville Hotel, Waterford. This year laid the foundations for the Class Rep System in the Institute, which has played a key role in the student movement within WIT.
Road Safety Awareness Campaign:
In 2007 the Union felt that the campaigns for creating awareness to the student body needed to be improved. A Road Safety Awareness Campaign in November created an enormous impression on students in WIT. The campaign, which featured a mock car cutting demonstration, gained local and national media coverage. There was also 368 pair of shoes displayed on campus to symbolise each death on Irish roads in 2006.
