Accommodation Types

Digs accommodation

This involves living with a host family, you will be provided with bed, breakfast and evening meal. This accommodation is generally Monday to Friday (inclusive) but will occasionally include weekends at additional cost.

Pros:

  • Perfect for students who literally need a place to sleep, study and shower.
  • They can have a 5 day or 7 day option which is reflected on the rent.

Cons:

  • Some students agree that the 5 day option can cause confusion and difficulties especially around times of exams.
  • The landlord is usually an older person who may have some strict house rules to follow that might not suit everyone.

Self-catering Accommodation/ House Share


This involves sharing a house or apartment with other tenants. Landlords are obliged to provide you with a rent book, written contract or lease. Rent Books are available free at your Student’s union office.
Pros:
Students can come and go as they please and have friends over.
Get your own front door and often a garden.
Cons:
You’re responsible for maintaining the house (paying bills, TV license, rubbish removal etc)
Everyone is equally responsible for deposit so if it’s not given back, everyone loses.

W.I.T. On-Campus Student Accommodation


Students have a choice of various locations with campus accommodation – College Fields, located on the Cork Road Campus or Manor Village, two minutes walk from College Street Campus. A shuttle bus running between the two campuses calls to Manor Village providing an excellent service to the residents.

College Fields apartments – there is a choice of three and four-bed apartments with all rooms en-suite. This apartment complex is ideal for students using the campus facilities out of hours – it’s a brief jog from the gym and sports hall and adjacent to the all weather pitch.

Manor Village is approximately 400 meters from College Street Campus. With the benefit of the shuttle bus and the fact that it’s on the City’s bus route, getting to the Cork Road campus couldn’t be easier. Many residents have bicycles which can be stored in the covered car park. Residents at Manor Village can also avail of broadband connection.

A laundry facility is located in the College Field Apartments and Manor Village. A same day service is provided.

Pros:

  • Security is usually very good
  • Most bills are included in the cost of rent (internet, tv, electricity)

Cons:

  • Often very expensive and sometimes expect rent upfront for the term as well as large deposit
  • Can’t choose who you live with
Other Student Accommodation
